Today Brisbane progressed in its transformation to becoming a new world city by reintroducing the humble bicycle. Whilst the rest of the city was going into a franzy about Formula One Tickets, Lord Mayor Campbell Newman lifted the veil on the highly anticipated CityCycle bike hire scheme at King George Square, where for an annual subscription of only $60.50, subscribers can use a bike for up to 30 minutes at a time at no additional cost.

And it launched in style too, with 100 people decked out in bright yellow CityCycle helmets enjoying the first ever mass CityCycle ride, following the speedy Lord Mayor, for a city tour that was plenty of FUN! This initiative will help get more people on bikes, more people out of cars, reduce demand on crowded city buses and will make Brisbane a better place to live – well done Brisbane City Council!
