Alberto Contador, the two time Tour de France winner has been dropped from testifying in the ‘Operacion Puerto’ trial in Madrid according to the lawyer governing the case for his former team manager Manolo Saiz.
Ignacio Arroyo, the lawyer on Saiz’ side said he would decide how to go about the case and is not in need of contador at the moment. The case, filed for ‘crime against public health’ is being tried in Madrid and has Siaz amongst the five other defendants.
Meanwhile, Contador who placed himself in fourth position in the tour of Oman after the likes of Evans, Froome and Rodriguez in a gap of 27 seconds is all set for the Tour de France this year. He has also decided to skip the Giro’d Italia trip to ensure that he has his energies banked for the France tour.
He reportedly said that despite having great memories of the Giro, he would like to give his hundred percent for the trip in July and hence is deciding to give the Italy trip a miss. He has also added that he would also consider going for his home tour that is, Tour of Spain after the France tour ends and only then shall he be considering it. He has been quoted saying “The Giro is a very special race for me but the Tour de France is more important this year”
Contador, a three time winner of the Tour de France was stripped of his third France title after he had been tested positive for doping and had been sentenced a ban of two years that he completed last year on August and went ahead in winning the Tour of Spain with his usual elan.
The star cyclist of Team Saxo-Tinkoff has been on and off news since he publicly proclaimed solidarity with Lance Armstrong and not to forget the stirring Puerto trial that is to be declaring its verdict on March.
