We run a regular ride every Saturday and Sunday  leaving Amazons Skate Park.    This calendar also gives extra rides that we do as well as, or instead of, the regular rides.  New riders are encouraged to begin by joining us for a Saturday ride.  Alternative start points closer to Southbank can be arranged.  Any type of bike is suitable, but preferably with gears.  Please make sure your bike is roadworthy, and that you have a helmet.  We encourage new riders to become members of Bicycle Queensland.  Please note, all rides are subject to change at short notice, depending on weather conditions and the like.   Please check the website the night before a ride to check for ride changes.

Saturday Rides

These rides will operate on Saturdays, and/or unless a “Better Offer” Saturday Ride, or ‘week-end’ activity  is listed below. Start at 6:30am Amazons; 6:40am Fig-tree Pocket Bus Stop; 6:55am Toowong Bus Depot in the Summer months.

We will alter this start time to commencing at 7am Amazons for Winter (commences Easter 2009 – 10th  April 2009) and revert to Summertime after the Cycle Queensland Ride (i.e. Saturday 19th September)

 

Sunday Rides

This ride will be to Depot Café Newstead, with the specific route determined on the day.  It will be replaced by a 100Km Sunday Ride on some Sundays. Start at 6:30am Amazons; 6:40am Fig-tree Pocket Bus Stop; 6:55am Toowong Bus Depot in the Summer months. .  

We will alter this start time to commencing at 7am Amazons for Winter (commences Easter 2009 – 11th  April 2009) and revert to Summertime after the Cycle Queensland Ride (i.e. Sonday 20th September)

Details: For the slower riders (< 20 kph), ride on bikeways to the Steam Cafe at Southbank for a coffee then return - 30k round trip.   This is the best ride for new riders to begin with.  For riders just starting out, we suggest you join us at the car park at Toowong Bus Depot at 7.15am for an easy flat ride along the Coronation Drive Bikeway.

Details: Ride on bikeways to a Cafe at Southbank for a coffee then return - 30k round trip. Lights essential.  This ride varies according to who want to do it so email to let us know if you are interested in riding.

 

 

 

New Riders:

New riders are always welcome. The group is not large, but we have ages ranging from teenagers to seniors, we have males and females, we have faster riders and slower riders. We have people riding on all sorts of bikes.

Mt Tamborine Ride

For the riders wishing to ride the full 46km round trip to meet at Middle
Park Tamborine, Beenleigh Beaudesert Road (GC UBD Map 2) 6:15am early start
for you City Slickers! Parking and toilets available.

Leave no later than 6:30am to avoid traffic.

Leave Middle Park proceed on to Tamborine Mt Road 6km, turns into Geismann
Drive past Curtis Falls, on to the Tourist and Information Centre (could meet
up with riders who want to just do short run around the mountain at 7:00am).
Turn right onto main Street follow along and have coffee at Spice of Life
Coffee shop. Depart when refreshed, head back to Tourist & Information Centre
Main Western Road (great views)  follow this road until you come to a Round
About just past the show grounds , turn right onto Alpine Terrace then right
on to White Rd follow along till you come to the set of lights (only ones on
mountain) and prepare for a steep descent about 3km to bottom, advise
caution sharp bends 20km. Reach bottom and turn right onto Christie Street
which takes you into Canungra, follow through onto Nerang Beaudesert Rd
which turns into Mundoolun Connection Road long flat straight about 18km
till come to the T Intersection and turn right onto Beenleigh Beaudesert
Road follow to end turn right back into Middle Park.

Brisbane 2 Ipswich Challenge

The Brisbane 2 Ipswich Challenge runs from Memorial Park in Toowong, travels 50km through Brisbane and Ipswich and forms an integral part of the Ipswich Festival. (Due to heavy construction on Coronation Drive, please note the change in start venue for the 2009 ride)

Start: 7am  Cost: $40 Individuals & $20 Children U16

Labour day weekend at Ballina

Dave is organising a trip to Ballina the Queensland Labour day
weekend, Thursday-Monday or if people can’t get the extra time choose how ever long they want to go for.  Dave knows the area quite well and is going to organise some rides and other activities like a mini BQ but staying in the one place, maybe a fun
time trial along the river road at Pimlico the Sunday morning.

He will be planning a few tough rides for Ballina for those who want
that along with some easy casual rides.

Beenleigh to Sanctuary Cove for breakfast

Meet at the Albert River Park at Fryar Rd Eagleby at 7.00am.  (UBD Map Ref 264 G20) We'll pick up the start of the Main Roads designated V1 ("Velo 1") bike route. This park was the start point for the Beenleigh Gold Coast section of the HTM Gold Coast Ride. From here we'll ride to Sanctuary Cove for breakfast.  Return trip is about 80kms.

(Drive time from Jindalee is probably about 45 mins)

Trev’s Mt Coot-tha training ride

Here is a ride which should get the adrenalin running, even to just thinking about it.  We’ll meet at Amazons at &:00am as usual.

 

Its a route over Mt Coot-tha following part of the way that the Mt Coot-tha challenge takes.

It is a total of 50.3 kms. with a coffee stop at the Kuta Cafe at the summit.  Trev says it’d be about the same effort as a normal 60km ride.)

Noosa Century

The Noosa Centrury is a 100mile (160km) ride from Brisbane to Noosa.  There is also a shorter 100km ride option starting from Caboolture.  Entry fees ar $90 for the Bris to Noosa and $75 for Caboolture to Noosa if entered before 10/6/09.  For more info go to http://www.usmevents.com.au/century/

Centenary Lakes Ride

Malcolm’s ride will circumnavigate the three lakes in Centenary suburbs, Westlake, Edenbrook and Windemere.  Most of the ride is either in bike path or bike lane with some general road sections.  The ride is about 30kms and has several hills and shaded leafy bikepath sections where care is required.  We’ll finish at Pepper Lounge behind the pool for coffee spot at the end of the ride.

Meeting place:  Carpark of MacDonalds at Warwick Rd Yamanto at 7am.               Start  Meet in the car park of McDonalds Warwick Road Yamanto. Left  Into Warwick Road under Cunningham Highway where road becomes Ipswich Boonah Road  Right Into Purga School Road.  Left Middle Road.  Right Peak Crossing Churchbank Weir Road.  Left         Webber Road  (in part 2km gravel but suitable for road bikes)  Strait Into Kalbar Peak Crossing Road   Left  Roadvale Road.  Right  Roadvale Harrisville Road.  Right  at Roadvale up passed the pub  (might be called Roadvale Drive)  Left Roadvale Teviotville Road.  Right Teviotville Kalbar Road.  (Teviotville)  Right  Kalbar Peak Crossing Road,  follow approx 20 km to Peak Crossing.  Left  Ipswich Boonah Road approx 15km return to Yamanto - 90km round trip.  Click to view a map.
