We run a regular ride every Saturday and Sunday  leaving Amazons Skate Park.    This calendar also gives extra rides that we do as well as, or instead of, the regular rides.  New riders are encouraged to begin by joining us for a Saturday ride.  Alternative start points closer to Southbank can be arranged.  Any type of bike is suitable, but preferably with gears.  Please make sure your bike is roadworthy, and that you have a helmet.  We encourage new riders to become members of Bicycle Queensland.  Please note, all rides are subject to change at short notice, depending on weather conditions and the like.   Please check the website the night before a ride to check for ride changes.

Saturday Rides

These rides will operate on Saturdays, and/or unless a “Better Offer” Saturday Ride, or ‘week-end’ activity  is listed below. Start at 6:30am Amazons; 6:40am Fig-tree Pocket Bus Stop; 6:55am Toowong Bus Depot in the Summer months.

We will alter this start time to commencing at 7am Amazons for Winter (commences  last weekend of school holidays 2008 – 12 April 2008) and revert to Summertime after the Cycle Queensland Ride (i.e. Saturday 13th September)

 

Sunday Rides

This ride will be to Depot Café Newstead, with the specific route determined on the day.  It will be replaced by a 100Km Sunday Ride on alternate Sundays. Start at 6:30am Amazons; 6:40am Fig-tree Pocket Bus Stop; 6:55am Toowong Bus Depot in the Summer months. .  

We will alter this start time to commencing at 7am Amazons for Winter (commences  last weekend of school holidays 2008 – 13 April 2008) and revert to Summertime after the Cycle Queensland Ride (i.e. Sunday 14th September)

Amazons Skate Park to Southbank

Meeting Place : Amazons Skate Park Jindalee in front of Amenities block.(UBD177 Q17)
Details: For the slower riders (< 20 kph), ride on bikeways to the Steam Cafe at Southbank for a coffee then return - 30k round trip.   This is the best ride for
new riders to begin with.  For riders just starting out, we suggest you join us at Toowong Bus Depot at 7.25am for an easy flat ride along the Coronation Drive Bikeway.

Saturday  6.30 am Amazons to Southbank via Mt Coot-Tha

Meeting Place : Amazons Skate Park Jindalee in front of Amenities block.(UBD177 Q17)
Details: For the faster riders (20 - 30 kph), ride on bikeways to Toowong, do a loop around Mt Coot-Tha then on to the Steam Cafe at Southbank for a coffee with the slower group, then return - 38k round trip.

Sunday     7.00 am       Amazons Skate Park to Depot Cafe Newstead.

Mid week rides Night Ride -Amazons Skate Park to Southbank 

Meeting Place : Mt Ommaney Village carpark opposite Mitre 10 store.
Details: Ride on bikeways a Cafe at Southbank for a coffee then return - 30k round trip. Lights essential.  Check ride calendar below for confirmation of dates, or alternatively ring or email to let us know if you are interested in riding.

     

New Riders:

New riders are always welcome. The group is not large, but we have ages ranging from teenagers to seniors, we have males and females, we have faster riders and slower riders. We have people riding on all sorts of bikes.

Sun 13th July Keel Mountain Challenge On Saturday Dale and Laurie spoke of their ambition to return to infamous Keel Mountain to see who is the best.  The hill or us with fresh legs.  There was lots of interest expressed in joining them.  Therefore hence and notwithstanding in point of fact it sounds like a nice Sunday outing.  So if you  man enough, woman enough to stand by your boast, put your hand up for the challenge.  Meanwhile, Laurie will work out a route to warm us up and get us back down hill to a coffee shop/pub etc. 
Sat 19th  July BBQ at Stewie’s place

Stewie and Kate have kindly offered to host a BBQ get-together at their house in Middle Park .  Arrive at 4pm for 6pm BBQ.  BYO meat and drinks plus a salad/desert to share.  We’ll share some stories on previous Cycle Qld rides, show some photos, and offer some tips and advice on tents, gear etc for new recruits.  RSVP wed 16th July.

Sunday 27th July 2008 Brissie to the Bay - Cycle for a Cure Ride

This ride is a fund raiser for Multiple Sclerosis.    Ride leaves from Musgrave Park South Brisbane.  There are 50km, 25km and 10km options, departing at 7.10am, 7.30am and 7.40am respectively.  For those riding in, we'll meet at Amazons at 5.30am, Toowong Bus Depot at 6.00am and Musgrave Park at 6.45am.   Registrations have re-opened and will remain open till Friday 25th July.   The cost will be $40 for the 50km or $35 for the 25km rides.  For more info click on Brissie to the Bay.

Sun 3rd Aug Nudgee Beach Ride

2pm start

Some riders have asked for some afternoon rides, so how about a ride to Nudgee Beach?  RSVP Fri 2nd August so we have an idea of numbers. 

Sun 10th August Rosewood to Aratula and back

This is a beautiful ride of approx 120km through the Lockyer Valley.  Long but not too hard with undulating hill and nice scenery.  We stop for lunch at Aratula before returning home by the same route.  For a review of our previous trip Rosewood-Aratula Ride.  RSVP wed 6th Aug.

Ekka Show Wed 13th August Redcliffe and Return

Plan is to leave Amazons Skate Park at the usual time of 7am and ride to Redcliffe via the Boondall wetlands.  Return trip is approx 120kms but if you’d like to join us and shorten the ride there are several stations where you could hop on a train for the journey home.  RSVP Sat 9th Aug.

Sun 17th August Circumnavigate Lake Wivenhoe - Fernvale - Esk - Fernvale.

Meet at Fernvale at 7:30am at the park opposite the bakery.  Follow the Brisbane Valley Highway through Esk (40km),  continue for 4 km on the other side of Esk, turn right and ride to Somerset Dam (26km).  Lunch at a picnic area opposite the General Store.  This store also sells hot food.  Then after lunch ride back down the same road for about two kilometres then turn left.  Continue along this road on the eastern side  of Lake Wivenhoe back to Fernvale (47km).  This section of the ride is more difficult because the hills are steeper.  Total distance is 113 km. 

Sun 24th August 100km ride - City - Cleveland - Manly            1pm start

Ride out through Annerley, Capalaba, Birkdale, Thorneside, Wynnum, Woolloongabba.

Bundaberg to Brisbane via Tin Can Bay

The 580km (ish) journey will take us from the sugar town of Bundaberg down the coast to Tin Can Bay for the rest day (think day trips to Fraser Island or Rainbow Beach!) before we head inland and explore the backway into Brisbane.

Sunday 12 October 2008 Wilson HTM Brisbane to the Gold Coast Cycle Challenge

The 2008 Wilson HTM Brisbane to the Gold Coast Cycle Challenge will be held on Sunday 12 October. 

In 2007 more than 5,700 cyclists pedalled to the Coast, making it the BIGGEST bike ride ever held in Queensland (and rewrote the record the ride set in 2006!)  As a result of such a huge turnout, just over $130,000 was raised for Diabetes Australia (Queensland) and the Heart Foundation.

November 2008 Caloundra Great Ocean Bike Ride

 

This ride is a fundraiser for Camp Quality.  There is a 50km ride, a 25km ride and a 10km ride.  The 50km ride starts and finishes at Quad Park Kawana at 7am, and rides to Pelican Waters and back.  For more information click on Caloundra's Coastal bike Ride.

The Centenary Bikeways Group accepts no responsibility and gives no warranties or assurances as to the appropriateness of the activities. It is the responsibility of the rider to have all necessary safety equipment and to ensure their bicycle is in a safe operating condition and that they are fit to ride. Riders release and indemnify the Convenor and other persons in the Centenary Bikeways Group from all actions, proceedings, demands and costs, expense and claims whatsoever which may be otherwise had or which may be made by any person arising out of their/their children/their family's participation in any activity.   It is also the rider's responsibility to inform the Convenor if they object to having their photo or name included on the website.
