Camp Goomburra – February 2005

Campsite claimed Friday mid afternoon at Goomburra

Sunset proclaimed by calls of bellbirds, cockatoo’s and kookaburras

Others arrived by moonlight and set up their tables chairs and tents

Breakfasted together discussing the cycle-day planned events

Riding up Lookout Road, two lookouts, and onto the Winder

Then unaware that their trip would be a blinder

Rough uphill Lookout Road, Sylvesters Lookout spear-grass splendid

Mt Castle Lookout’s platform and views of Brisbane CBD us eluded

Lost the Winder track under past head-height vegetation

Had a chat over campsite afternoon tea for reinvigoration

Rode into sunset over gravel and causeways amid Dalrymple Creek trees

Sunset drinkers great-day adventures told over dinners balanced on knees

Moonlit campsite tranquillity broken by possums food-seeking commotion

Even romance evoking ambience could not kidnap possum-hunt emotions

Sun-raised breakfasted walkers went early along North Branch Creek

Amid Catholic Bushwalkers Group members; Nature’s wonders to seek

Saw sunning carpet snakes, birdlife, tall trees, waterfalls postcard fit

Morning-tea stop shared by all walkers sitting creekside enjoying it

Lunch shared under trees, noon-day sunshining temperatures eased

By birdsong choirs as campsites were packed up in a light cooling breeze

Thoughts recounted experiences and hatched plans of a next-month event

Farewells said, campers dispersed and their separate ways went

All reached homes safely, tho’ park-play attendees were later than most

Grateful of fine weather, another fun week-end spent with mutual hosts
