Queensland
Folk Federation stage the Woodford Folk Festival [WFF] at Woodford
annually over Christmas – New Year. In conjunction with Epic Cycles,
Woodford Folk Festival encourage sustainable transport attendees by
providing a car-free campground for people who choose to arrive at the
festival by bicycle, by foot, or by public transport.
The
‘sustainable transport camp-ground’ [STC] has only a small ecological
footprint – a small tree-shaded space to co-locate many small tents,
creating a compact communal meeting place, with end-of-trip and common
room facilities within a marquee comprising
·
Bicycle
storage racking, and floor mounted tyre-pump;
·
Kitchen,
cooking, dining, lounge, discussion area; and
·
Temporary tent erection/demolition area, and a clothes drying area
during inclement weather..
The
basic home comforts of eskies, meal preparation/dining tables, and
chairs, dish wash-up facilities and a potable water supply are provided
for a comfortable well-equipped campsite – the STC!
WFF
deserves encouragement and support in providing a cyclist-friendly
festival.
Centenary Bikeways
Group members attend WFF and advocate the further development and
publicity of the STC to encourage more WFF attendance in a ‘sustainable’
manner.
