6 Chancellor Street SHERWOOD 4075 5 January 2007 The Executive Director – Bill Hauritz Woodford Folk Festival Queensland Folk Federation PMB 2 Woodford 4514.
Dear Bill, Sustainable Transport Campground Enhancement
Congratulations to Woodford Folk Festival [WFF] and Epic Cycles [EC] for providing the ‘sustainable transport camp-ground’ [STC] catering to Festival campers travelling by bicycle or public transport, and typically creating only a small ecological footprint at Woodford – many small tents co-located in a small tree-shaded space, a compact communal meeting place, and no car-parking spaces required.
The much appreciated end-of-trip and common room facilities within the marquee comprised –
The basic home comforts of eskies, meal preparation/dining tables, and chairs, dish wash-up facilities and a potable water supply provided a comfortable well-equipped campsite – the STC!
The STC was extensively used – EC will have statistics – almost to its capacity for most of the week, despite many potential users being unaware of the STC availability. Enhanced publicity is warranted, and recommended.
I commend WFF give consideration to providing a pedestrian/cycle entrance (not motor vehicle width) to the STC from beside the Woodford Ticket Office, and incorporate this adjacent area within the future STC, which would benefit greatly from having hessian demarcation fencing. This entrance will allow easy access to the STC and provide a larger STC area that usage in 2006-07, and enhanced publicity will necessitate for subsequent years. Having access to a Season Camping Map would assist greatly in effectively communicating this proposals details.
I would appreciate being appraised of developments as I am seeking to have Centenary Bikeways Group, a bicycle-user-group based in Brisbane’s western suburbs, provide enhanced publicity for the WFF and its ‘touring cyclist friendly’ STC initiative on its website: centenarybikeways.org
Regards
John C Taylor
